What You Need to Know about Orthodontic Dental Insurance
from:
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of dental and facial abnormality recognized by the American Dental Association. Malocclusion or bad bite is the technical term of these abnormalities and orthodontic helps in achieving facial harmony through designing, applying and putting on control corrective devices such as braces to bring the lips, teeth and jaws in their accurate alignment.
Orthodontics dental insurance is important in the well being of an individual, because you are protected and wise usage of this insurance are essential to you and your family’s safety. Problems being treated by orthodontics are preventable dental problems; it only needs regular check up from the dentist and early diagnosis of your irregularity and treating it without too much costly procedures.
The most common tooth problem is their proper alignment. Orthodontic braces of several types are used to align teeth. Damon brackets and ceramic brackets are two of the most popular type. It is recommended to check with your orthodontist to know what the types of braces offered and covered by your orthodontic dental insurance plans.
- Damon brackets are the new technology in orthodontics invented by Damon Dwight. These are designed using the sliding door technology or self ligation, allowing the wire to slide back and forth within the bracket with minimized friction and gives more comfort to the patient.
- Ceramic braces use less visible brackets for patients who are conscious about aesthetic appearances so they naturally blend with the original color of your tooth.
- Clear braces are made of pure monocrystalline sapphire making the braces appear invisible except for the arch wire.
- Metal braces are the most economical alternative appropriate to those needing extensive teeth realignment.
Other orthodontic treatments include removal of retainers or appliances, putting full or partial braces, serial extractions within specified schedule, installation of headgear, putting functional appliances in an individual to achieve facial balance and conducting surgery orthodontics. Ask your orthodontist if some of these services are being covered by the orthodontic insurance company.
Orthodontic coverage is usually a separate benefit in a dental insurance contract ranging only to a maximum level of fifty percent of the orthodontic treatment. It is important to call the insurance company or talk to plan administrator so that you could determine your orthodontic coverage.
- You should know if the plan covers orthodontic treatment such as braces
- If they are covering such orthodontic treatment then you should know the exact percentage
- You should know if there are limitations covered by that particular percentage such as age of the patient, and maximum expenses etc
After you have established an orthodontic coverage and after setting your financial arrangement with your orthodontist, then it is the responsibility of the orthodontic office to give you the dental care form that you must send to the insurance company. Every time you pay your bills in the orthodontic office, they will issue a receipt that will be attached to the dental claim Form for reimbursement in your insurance company.
There are the things you must remember regarding the orthodontic coverage. You must know that orthodontists never accept designated payments from insurance companies. Orthodontists are not forced to sign the dental claim form because there are no dental codes needed in orthodontic coverage. The certified specialist in orthodontics information form is the only one needed to predetermine benefits and once it is approved no other insurance forms are required from the orthodontics office.
